Inside Europe’s Illegal Dog Fighting Rings | Investigators


What happens when a journalist and ex-detective infiltrate an illegal dog fighting network? Over a million dogs across the world are thought to be involved in illegal dog fighting. Many of these dogs are bred, bought and sold purely to go head to head with other dogs in a fight that usually ends with death. Dog fighting is inextricably linked to organized crime, with gangs thought to smuggle guns and drugs during the week, and watch dog fights at the weekend. In order to expose the criminals behind this abuse of animals, BBC journalist Tom Symonds and ex-detective Mark Randell teamed up with an undercover operative to infiltrate a network that smuggles dogs across Europe and America.
