Kazakhstan's Shoot-to-Kill Policy Makes Its President Stronger than Ever
No one has been watching the recent protests and violent crackdown in Kazakhstan closer than Vladimir Putin, president of regional superpower, Russia. More than 150 people were killed and 10,000 arrested after protests over the price of gas led to Kazakhstan's ruler ordering a shoot to kill policy on protesters. But the sudden instability in the former Soviet state may have surprised Putin, and given him reason to consider his own next moves.
