What Happens After the World’s Longest School Shutdown


Ugandan schools reopened in January, ending the world’s longest COVID-related school shutdown, according to UNESCO figures. Education experts long lobbied to get schools reopened sooner, warning that the closures were doing more harm than good. During the pandemic, a government agency reported a spike in child labor, teen pregnancies and early marriages. It projects at least a third of students may never go back to school.
