The Kids Will See You in Court: Climate on Trial in Montana


An unusual provision in Montana’s state constitution guarantees a “clean and healthful environment” to all residents. Now, a group of children in the state are suing the state — saying that their investment and reliance on fossil fuels actually violates their constitutional right. In June, Held v Montana will become the first youth-driven climate lawsuit to make it to trial in the entire country, and could set a precedent nation-wide when it comes to how governments need to handle the climate crisis.
